From Fedmet to FRC Global: Our Story of Innovation and Growth

It all started with Mark Mattar, a ceramic engineer with a knack for spotting opportunities. After working at US Steel, Nalco Chemical, and Wirth Incorporated, Mark saw a gap in global supply chains. In the late ’80s, he took a bold step: founding Fedmet Resources Corporation. His idea? Import high-quality refractory materials from China — a move that was unheard of at the time. Mark became the first to bring Chinese refractory bricks to the U.S., offering products that lasted longer and cost less. That pioneering spirit set the tone for everything that followed.
Over the years, Fedmet expanded into electrodes, slide gates, copper mold tubes, ceramic fiber, and more. Mark’s success didn’t come easy — he spent countless hours traveling, negotiating, and building relationships to ensure quality and reliability. Those efforts created a culture of innovation and excellence that still defines us today.
Fast forward to 2020: Fedmet became FRC Global. Mark’s three daughters joined forces to unify the brand and lead the company into the future. Julie, now our president and CEO, brings an entrepreneurial mindset and a passion for sustainability. Leanne, our director of people & IT, uses her Disney operations experience to strengthen processes and technology. And Dianne, our director of electrode sales, combines engineering expertise with a customer-first approach.
Together, they’re shaping the next chapter of FRC Global. As Julie says, “Businesses must evolve or risk becoming stagnant.” That belief drives everything we do.
