Engineering Legacy and Leadership: Dianne Detwiler on Growing Up B2B

As a child, Dianne Detwiler remembers being curious about where her father, Mark Mattar, traveled all the time.

“He was traveling all over the world, visiting suppliers, finding new suppliers,” Dianne says. “And so I was curious as a kid: where are you going all the time? What are you doing while you’re there?”

Mark was busy building Fedmet Resources Corporation, what is today called FRC Global. Dianne's curiosity led her to join on a few of her father’s trips as a teenager, which only increased her interest in the family business. Inspired by her father’s passion and her own love for science, she pursued a degree in ceramic engineering at Alfred University, the same school her father attended. After gaining valuable experience at Fortune 500 company Corning, she joined FRC Global in March 2020, just weeks before the world shut down due to COVID-19.

“Leaving Corning was hard, but I was ready," Dianne says. "My sisters were already in the business, and I didn’t want to be on the outside of something so meaningful.”

Today, Dianne and her two sisters, Julie Lord and Leanne Pate, co-own and lead the company their father started. As a young leader and growing voice for the company, Dianne believes in taking care of FRC Global’s people, and that “You don’t need to have all the answers. You just need to help people find them.”
